Tengrinews.kz - The Ministry of National Defense of Turkey conducted an air operation in northern Syria and Iraq.

This was reported by CNN Türk, citing a statement from the relevant department.

"On October 23, 2024, an air operation was carried out in northern Iraq and Syria against terrorist targets... 32 targets were destroyed," the document states.

The statement emphasizes that these actions by the Air Force were aimed at neutralizing groups of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (banned in Turkey) and other elements, preventing terrorist attacks on civilians and security forces, and ensuring border security.

It is noted that a large amount of Turkish weaponry was used during the airstrikes, leading to the destruction of the targets.

"In conducting these operations, all measures were taken to prevent harm to civilians, friendly forces, as well as historical and cultural sites, and the environment," the statement explains.

According to Anadolu Agency, earlier, Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya suggested the involvement of the PKK in the Ankara attack.

A terrorist attack occurred on the territory of the Turkish aerospace company's facility - the TUSAS plant in Ankara. Turkish media reports that eyewitnesses first heard an explosion at the gates of the enterprise, after which shooting occurred.

Deutsche Welle notes that TUSAS is a developer and manufacturer of fighter jets and drones. The publication reports that this week, Turkey is hosting an important defense, aerospace, and aviation industry exhibition. The defense sector accounts for nearly 80 percent of Turkey's export figures. In 2023, the country exported defense equipment worth $10.2 billion.

According to updated information, 5 people were killed in the terrorist attack, 22 were injured, 19 of whom remain in hospitals, 2 in serious condition.
