Tengrinews.kz – US President-elect Donald Trump proposed that European countries deploy their troops in Ukraine to monitor compliance with the ceasefire. This was reported by The Wall Street Journal, according to DW.

The American newspaper's sources report that the initiative was voiced at a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on December 7. Trump told Zelensky and Macron that he does not support Ukraine joining NATO, but wants Ukraine to be "strong and well-armed" after the war ends.

Europe should play the main role in protecting and supporting Ukraine, Trump said. According to his plan, the American military will not be directly involved in this mission, although the politician did not rule out some support for the European contingent from the United States.

The newspaper's interlocutors noted that such an initiative had previously been discussed between the British and French sides, and now the negotiations include the United States, Ukraine and some other European countries. If foreign troops do come to Ukrainian territory, it will not be an operation of the entire NATO alliance - only a peacekeeping or observation mission of individual countries. American troops will not be in Ukraine.

Trump also called on Europe to put pressure on China so that it, in turn, influences Russia to end the conflict. Tariffs on Chinese goods can be used as a pressure tool.

Trump previously promised that he would be able to achieve a settlement of the Ukrainian conflict through negotiations. He has repeatedly stated that he would be able to resolve the conflict in Ukraine in one day. The Russian Federation believes that this is too complex a problem for such a simple solution.

Trump's unnamed aides said that he does not yet have a specific plan for resolving the Ukrainian crisis; his team is formulating relevant ideas.
