Tengrinews.kz – U.S. President Donald Trump shared his opinion on Victory Day in World War II.

In doing so, the American president referred to May 8 as the significant date.

"Many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other Country, by far, in producing a victorious result on World War II. I am hereby renaming May 8th as Victory Day for World War II and November 11th as Victory Day for World War I," Trump wrote on Truth Social.

He pledged that the U.S. would begin celebrating this day.

"We won both Wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery, or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything — That’s because we don’t have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! We are going to start celebrating our victories again!" the U.S. president added.

It is worth noting that World War II officially ended on September 2, 1945, when Japan signed the instrument of surrender.

Additionally, the UN General Assembly proclaimed May 8 and 9 as Days of Remembrance and Reconciliation in 2004, following an initiative by CIS countries. These dates are dedicated to honoring all victims of World War II and can be commemorated alongside national holidays celebrating victory and liberation.
