Tengrinews.kz - President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov signed a decree implementing the law "On Burial and Funeral Affairs," banning lavish monuments on graves, according to "Kabar."
The decree aims to regulate burial traditions and customs and ensure social justice, as stated in the document.
"In modern Kyrgyz society, during funerals, there are negative manifestations and vices such as vanity, disregard for the social status of others, excessive extravagance, and neglect of religious customs and traditions: the relatives of the deceased erect mausoleums, large structures made of stone, granite, or marble of huge size, install statues of the deceased, and surround the graves with luxurious metal fences," the document is quoted by the publication.
Sadyr Japarov also instructed the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kyrgyzstan to issue fatwas prohibiting the installation of monuments and fences made of stone, granite, marble, and metal. Exceptions are made for graves of historical and cultural significance.
According to the decree, gravestones can only be made from wooden materials and should not exceed 70 centimeters in height.
