Tengrinews.kz - Italy plans to increase the tourist tax from 5 to 25 euros per night in order to reduce the number of tourists, according to Independent.
The publication reports that Italy has proposed raising the tourist tax to 25 euros per night for visitors staying in the most expensive hotel rooms. Currently, the tax ranges from 1 to 5 euros.
It is noted that the government aims to make tourists "more responsible" with the tax increase and to fund waste removal in disadvantaged areas.
In 2023, nearly 60 million foreign tourists visited Italy, leading to overcrowding at some resorts during peak season.
If the government approves the plan, the tax will be set by hotels based on the room category. For rooms costing more than 750 euros per night, the tax will be 25 euros, while for rooms costing less than 100 euros, the tax will be 5 euros.
Barbara Casillo, director of Confindustria Alberghi, warned the government to "be very careful" to avoid negative consequences, as high taxes in Italy could deter potential travelers.
Earlier, the number of Turkmen tourists in Kazakhstan reaches 20 thousand.
