Tengrinews.kz – A federal grand jury in the state of Virginia has indicted former FBI Director James Comey.
According to NBC News, the indictment includes two counts: giving false testimony and obstructing the work of Congress.
U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote on social network X, without mentioning Comey by name, that the indictment reflects “this Department of Justice’s commitment to holding those who abuse positions of power accountable for misleading the American people.”
“We will follow the facts in this case,” she added.

U.S. President Donald Trump commented on the indictment of Comey on the social network Truth Social.
“JUSTICE IN AMERICA! One of the worst human beings this Country has ever been exposed to is James Comey, the former Corrupt Head of the FBI. Today he was indicted by a Grand Jury on two felony counts for various illegal and unlawful acts. He has been so bad for our Country, for so long, and is now at the beginning of being held responsible for his crimes against our Nation. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!” he wrote.
According to Trump, Comey has harmed the country for a long time, and now the process of holding him accountable for his crimes against the nation is just beginning.
The charges are related to testimony Comey gave on September 30, 2020, during a hearing of the Senate Judiciary Committee. He reaffirmed his 2017 testimony that he did not authorize any leaks of information related to FBI investigations involving Donald Trump and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Comey’s deputy, Andrew McCabe, stated that Comey had authorized him to share information with the press, according to a 2018 report from the Department of Justice Inspector General. However, the same report noted that McCabe made several false or misleading statements.
According to the network, if the former FBI director is found guilty, he could face up to five years in prison.
It was previously reported that Comey was also accused of threatening Trump, following a post on Instagram. At the time, media outlets recalled the long-standing conflict between Trump and Comey: the U.S. president had fired him from the FBI during his first term.
