Tengrinews.kz – American conservative blogger and activist Charlie Kirk was shot during a speech at Utah Valley University, according to DW.
The incident occurred on Wednesday, September 10.
According to Reuters, citing an NBC News correspondent, gunfire was heard 20 minutes into his speech.
Kirk was shot in the neck and hospitalized.
"We must all pray for Charlie Kirk, who has been shot. A great guy from top to bottom. GOD BLESS HIM!" commented U.S. President Donald Trump on the attempted assassination of his supporter on the social network Truth Social.
A few hours later, Trump announced Kirk’s death.
"The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!" he wrote.
Following the activist’s death, the President ordered flags across the United States to be flown at half-mast until the evening of Sunday, September 14.
Former President Joe Biden also commented on the killing:
"There is no place in our country for this kind of violence. It must end now. Jill and I are praying for Charlie Kirk’s family and loved ones," he wrote on social network X.
Police initially detained a suspect in the attack but quickly determined that the person in custody was not the shooter.
Later, FBI Director Kash Patel announced the arrest of a suspect in Kirk’s murder. The suspect’s name has not yet been disclosed.
Charlie Kirk was a vocal supporter of Trump, frequently appeared in media, and held lectures and debates at various educational institutions.
