Tengrinews.kz - A new global ranking has highlighted the cities where residents feel the happiest and most satisfied with their quality of life.
Time Out released its annual survey of the world’s happiest cities, gathering responses from over 18,000 residents across different countries. The study found that feelings of happiness are influenced not only by economic conditions or healthcare quality but also by everyday aspects such as neighborhood atmosphere, walkability, and the availability of green spaces.
Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, topped the list, with 99% of residents saying their city makes them happy and 93% stating they have never felt better anywhere else. The city received high marks for its pedestrian-friendly streets, rich cultural environment, and abundant green spaces.
“Abu Dhabi has naturally blended tradition and modernity. People here take pride in their city and its development,” noted the report’s authors.
Colombia’s Medellín ranked second. About 97% of residents said they find joy in daily activities, whether getting coffee or spending evenings with friends. Locals refer to Medellín as the “City of Eternal Spring” not only because of its mild climate but also due to its open, optimistic atmosphere.
Cape Town in South Africa came third, praised for its stunning beaches, diverse cuisine, and vibrant arts scene. Similarly, 97% of residents reported being happy living in the city, illustrating how natural beauty and multiculturalism contribute to well-being.
The ranking assessed cities based on culture, nightlife, cuisine, ease of mobility, housing accessibility, and overall quality of life. Participants also responded to statements such as “My city makes me happy” and “I feel joy from the everyday experiences my city offers.”
