Tengrinews.kz – BRICS member countries have begun withdrawing from the alliance after U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose tariffs on all goods imported from those nations, RBC reported.

“I told anybody who wants to be in BRICS, that’s fine, but we’re going to put tariffs on your nation,” Trump said. “Everybody dropped out. They’re all dropping out of BRICS. BRICS was an attack on the dollar, and I said, if you want to play that game, I’ll put tariffs on all your products coming into the U.S. They said, as I said, we’re dropping out of BRICS… They don’t even talk about it anymore,” Trump stated during a meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei at the White House.

Earlier, in July, Trump announced that any country supporting the “anti-American” BRICS policy would face additional 10% trade tariffs.

Originally, BRICS included Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. Since 2024, Egypt, the UAE, Ethiopia, and Iran have joined the group, and Indonesia became a member in January 2025. Partner countries cooperating with the bloc include Belarus, Bolivia, Cuba, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Nigeria, Thailand, Uganda, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam.
