Tengrinews.kz – A UPS cargo plane, a McDonnell Douglas MD-11F, crashed shortly after takeoff from Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, Kentucky, USA.
According to the Aviation Safety Network and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), the aircraft was operating flight 2976 bound for Honolulu. Aviation Safety reports that three crew members were on board — all were killed.
Preliminary information indicates that the plane struck several buildings near the airport during the crash, resulting in four additional fatalities and eleven serious injuries.

Witnesses reported a massive explosion and a thick column of black smoke rising dozens of meters into the air. Local authorities declared a shelter-in-place order within an 8-kilometer radius of the airport due to the risk of toxic emissions and possible fuel leaks.

UPS Airlines confirmed the crash and said it is in constant contact with the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), which is leading the investigation.
An FAA spokesperson stated that investigators are already working at the crash site. The main preliminary cause is believed to be an engine failure shortly after takeoff.
Earlier, it was reported that a tourist plane crash claimed 11 lives.
