High voter turnout is expected this election, Tengrinews.kz reports quoting Chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) as saying. Foreign observers asked Kuandyk Turgankulov about the expected voter turnout during one of the recent meetings between the CEC and observation missions. Chairman Turgankulov said that “high” turnout was expected. “A priori there is always an interest in presidential elections. I am using the 2005 elections figures: then it was 77%. I won’t give you the exact figure for these elections, but I can say for sure that it is going to be high,” Turgankulov said. He pointed out that the 2005 elections were held in winter with freezing temperatures outside. But this time the voting is in spring and the spring season should facilitate a higher turnout.
