Elections results reflect voters’ will: PACE By Vladimir Dmitriev ©

Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) issued its assessment of the presidential elections held in Kazakhstan April 3, Tengrinews.kz reports. PACE observers acknowledged a certain progress in the election procedures in Kazakhstan: “Despite some imperfections – that are unavoidable at any elections in any country – results of the vote do reflect the will of Kazakhstan’s citizens”, the statement reads. The mission pointed to the necessity of a strong opposition to be formed in Kazakhstan and voiced their readiness to facilitate development of the political culture in Kazakhstan. The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) can be considered the oldest international parliamentary assembly with a pluralistic composition of democratically elected members of parliament established on the basis of an intergovernmental treaty. Its powers extend only to the ability to investigate, recommend and advise. Even so, its recommendations on issues such as human rights have significant weight in the European political context.
