Kazakhstan electing President
April 3, 2011 Kazakhstan is holding presidential elections. At 7:00 a.m. local time 9 725 polling stations opened their doors, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the Central Election Commission (CEC). According to the CEC’s Press Service, the numbers of polling stations look as follows: 1 107 polling stations are working in the East Kazakhstan; 1 006 in the South of the country; 828 polling stations in Akmolinsk oblast; 522 in Aktyubinsk oblast; 911 in Almaty oblast; 233 in Atyrau oblast; 450 in Zhambyl oblast; 526 in West Kazakhstan oblast; 765 in Karaganda oblast; 335 in Kyzylorda oblast; 860 in Kostanai oblast; 164 in Mangistau oblast; 578 in Pavlodar oblast; 755 in North Kazakhstan oblast; 218 in Astana City; 467 in Almaty City. A total of 69 693 people are employed to facilitate the election process at the polling stations across the country. Earlier the CEC announced that all the polling stations were completely ready. 223 local elections commissions are in place. The CEC accredited 357 observers of the OSCE, 426 of the CIS, 13 of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), 100 of 4 international organizations and 163 representatives of 25 countries. Besides, 90 accredited journalists are among those monitoring the elections. Results of the elections are to be published April 12 at the latest.
