Tengrinews.kz – Renowned American philosopher and political scientist Francis Fukuyama, a senior fellow at Stanford University, has commented on the implications of Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, DW reports.

According to Fukuyama, Trump's return to power would bring significant changes, impacting not only the United States but also the global political landscape.

He warned that a second Trump presidency could bolster right-wing populist movements in Europe, setting a troubling precedent for the EU.

The political scientist also highlighted other "geopolitical risks" that could emerge, including a potential "peace deal with Putin at Ukraine's expense" and doubts about Washington's commitment to defending its allies in Southeast Asia against China.

Earlier, at the Yalta European Strategy conference, Fukuyama emphasized that the outcome of Russia’s war in Ukraine will have far-reaching consequences for neighboring countries and beyond.

"The result of this war could trigger significant changes in countries like Georgia, Moldova, and Kazakhstan, which would face immediate impacts if Russia succeeds in maintaining control over Ukrainian territories," Fukuyama noted.

On November 5, the U.S. presidential election concluded, with Republican candidate Donald Trump securing 277 electoral votes, surpassing the required 270.
