Steel workers request 30% salary raise in Temirtau

Employees of ArcelorMittal Temirtau started a battle for a 30% salary increase starting from October 1, KazTAG reports. “To request 30% salaries increase starting from October 1. To send the reqest to management of ArcelorMittal Temirtau within 3 days,” delegates of the conference of employees of steel, coal and mining departments of ArcelorMittal Temirtau declared. As per the legislation, the company's management has to consider the employees' request within 7 days. The company has enough funds to raise the salaries, the delegates said. “Compared to the same period last year, production of cast iron increased by 21 percent, steel production grew 22 percent and output of rolled metal grew 19 percent in the last 6 months. Substantial profit was received in 2010. There is a 9% growth of the world prices for cold and hot rolled products. Director General of ArcelorMittal in Kazakhstan Frank Pannier released the information that the company did well as per the intermediate results of 9 months and thanked the employees for their efforts,” Vladimir Dubin, head of Temirtau Metallurgists' trade union Zhaktau said. Meanwhile, salaries of miners and metallurgists in Kazakhstan are much lower than the ones of their American and European colleagues working in business units of ArcelorMittal, the conference delegates stated.
