Shukeev offered to wrap up Government’s Committee for Zhanaozen

Umirzak Shukeev, Head of the Samruk-Kazyna Sovereign Wealth Fund and currently Head of the Government’s Committee for Zhanaozen, suggests completing the Commission’s work in Zhanaozen, Tengrinews.kz reports from the Cabinet’s sitting January 10. “I believe the Committee’s work is over. All the urgent measures have been taken. I suggest completing the Committee’s work”, Mr. Shukeev said. He said that the local bodies had decided to pay $6802 for each of the bereaved families [following the public unrest of December 16 in the oil-producing city of Zhanaozen]. And $3400 to each of the victims of the Zhanaozen public unrest. According to Mr. Shukeev, 1622 (80%) of the oilmen at Ozenmunaigas Oil Company [fired following the industrial action] have applied to the state-run facility established to secure their further employment. A special facility has been launched to support S&MBs; in the region. Microloans of up to $34 000 will be extended to eligible entrepreneurs on mild terms. 5 country regions have donated over $680 000 each to the Mangistau region [affected by the public unrest]. Water supply and power supply issues are the most vital for Zhanaozen at the moment. The Government has a plan to attend to these issues. Along with the Economy Ministry, the Government is developing additional projects to support entrepreneurs, Mr. Shukeev said. Another $20 000 000 will be allocated by the Government to eliminate consequences of the public unrest, according to Shukeev.
