This year five Kazakhstan athletes have qualified for the 9th Winter Paralympics. Last year, there was only one athlete representing Kazakhstan at the Vancouver Paralympics. The 2014 Sochi Paralympics are taking place from March 7th to 16th.
The Kazakhstan athletes were promised $50 thousand for a gold medal, $35 thousand for a silver medal and $25 thousand for a bronze medal. Athletes who won the fourth, fifth or sixth place will also be rewarded.
The Kazakhstan Paralympic team has been training together for one year only. All athletes came a long way winning their battles with health problems. Despite the lack of experience, the Kazakhstan athletes are enthusiastic and willing to do their best at the Paralympics. The Olympic bronze medalist Denis Ten came to wish the fellow athletes good luck in Sochi.
