The new MEGA mall construction site in Almaty (at the crossing of Makatayev and Massanchi streets) caught fire. The fire-fighting operation involved 30 fire-fighters, 7 vehicles.
“It was most likely caused by violation of safety rules by the contractor, Ata-Stroi company, that is constructing the new mall. Foam plastic that caught fire in the storage facilities of the complex,” public relations director of MEGA malls Alisher Yelikbayev said.
Firefighters said that mineral wool caught fire. And STV correspondent reported from the site that there was a threat that the assembled metal frame would cave in during the fire.
The area on fire made 500 square meters. But the first was extinguished pretty fast. No casualties were reported.
