Nearly 600 people were killed, 2,401 people were injured, 230,000 had to be evacuated, more than 80,000 homes fully or partially collapsed in the strong earthquake in China on August 3, according to China's ministry of civil affairs. The US Geological Survey (USGS) reported the quake at a magnitude of 6.1 and said it struck at a relatively shallow depth of 10 kilometres (six miles) in an area of Ludian county in Zhaotong, China. The strong tremor was caught on street cameras.
