American circus acrobats fall 30 ft during hair-hanging stunt

The horrible accident happened when eight American acrobats were hanging by their hair injured making a stunt known as a Human Chandelier. The main high wire holding the circus platform snapped and it collapsed thirty feet (12 meters) to the ground with eight acrobats on the aerial frame and one dancer below.

The act took place on May 4 at around 11:45 a.m. at Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus at the Dunkin' Donuts Centre in Providence, Rhode Island.

Twenty people were injured, nine of them critically, were taken to hospital. None of the injuries are believed to be life threatening.

It is not yet clear what caused the wire to snap and who is responsible for the tragic accident. Providence Public Safety officials and inspectors are still searching to determine what caused the accident.
