Oxford students' cover draws Shakira's attention
Oxford choir has become popular after releasing an acapella cover version of Shakira's hits that then was tweeted by the Colombian singer herself. All-male a cappella vocal band Out of the Blue, made up of students from the University of Oxford and Oxford Brookes University, made a cover of Shakira's Hips Don't Lie, Whenever Wherever and Waka Waka to raise funds for Helen & Douglas House, the world’s first children’s hospice, set up in 1982 in Oxford. Their target was £1,000, but they did not expected to be noticed by Shakira herself.
Shakira tweeted a link to the cover to her 26 million followers on July 23. "Hey @ootboxford, we LOVE you're a capella Shak medly! ¡Nos encanta este medley que han hecho @ootboxford," the singer wrote. Her tweet was retweeted over 2,000 times, and received over 2,000 favourites so far. The same day, Shakira posted the video on her Facebook page in English and Spanish. It attracted over 95,000 likes and was shared nearly 11,000 times.
