Female surgeries “performed” on more than 200 men in Mangystau

According to investigators, officials at the IBN SINA and SOFIE MED GROUP medical centers, when coding medical services for male patients diagnosed with varicocele, used the code for a high-tech procedure intended for women: “endovascular embolization of pelvic organ vessels and uterine arteries.”

“As a result, costly services were unjustifiably assigned to more than 200 male patients, which increased the cost of treatment by up to 10 times. In 19 cases, patients did not confirm that they had visited the clinics at all,” the Financial Monitoring Agency said.

The damage caused exceeded 221 million tenge. The investigation is ongoing.
