Semey students decided to make a New Year present to their city on the last days of 2011, Tengrinews.kz reports. The initiative group from Semey has made an application to the Guinness Book of World Records and asked to declare Semey the biggest city in the world. “The city's official area is 27 000 square kilometers. This means that 80 square meters per one Semey citizen,” Akgul Nurzhakupova, Semey student said. Semey is bigger than Moscow, London, New York, Istanbul and Delhi. The city situated on the Irtysh River is 81.62 times bigger than Almaty. “I think that our application will be considered and Semey will be declared the biggest city in the world by Stuart Newport's office in New York (the current publisher of Guinness World Records Book.) This will have a positive impact on city's economy,” Nurzhakupova said.
