Spanish traveller arrived in Kazakhstan on electric car, Tengrinews.kz reports. Rafael de Mestre, Spanish freelancer, arrived in Karaganda as part of his round-the-world trip on a serial electric car. Rafael is the only participant and organizer of the round-the-world tour. He has spent all his money in this trip: around 250 thousand Euro. When Rafael’s family found out about his plans to travel around the world his girlfriend left him and his mother was shocked that her son would go to some unknown Kazakhstan. “They say in the West that one can get killed in China. But in my view China is one of the safest countries for travelling in terms of the roads and people,” the traveller said. Rafael planned to travel the world in 80 days, but he is already behind the schedule, because he had to wait for Chinese visa for a long time. His trip started in Barcelona in May. The traveller spends nights in hotels, where he charges his car from ordinary sockets. One charge is good for 400km. Rafael already had an incident with road police in Kazakhstan: “I was driving too fast and the police stopped me. They wanted to suspend my license for violation but then suggested to pay on the spot. I was happy, as I was in a hurry. They asked for dollars, but I didn’t have any, so I gave tenge, 5 thousand ($33). Then their boss came to me and said: “Oh, you drive an electric car”, gave me my money back and let me go.” The traveller’s car is always connected to the Internet and everyone is able to monitor his progress online. He left Karaganda for Astana and then will go to Europe via Russia.
