Weightlifter Zhazira Zhapparkul brought Kazakhstan a bronze medal in snatch at the IWF World Championships in Almaty, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Weightlifter Zhazira Zhapparkul brought Kazakhstan a bronze medal in snatch at the IWF World Championships in Almaty, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Zhapparkul competed in the women’s -69 kg weight category and used two out of three attempts. She lifted 113 and 118 kilos. As a result, Zhapparkul lost to Un Hui Ryo from North Korea who lifted 120 kg and Chinese weightlifter Youjuan Chen who snatched 118 kg.

Another Kazakhstani weightlifter Maya Maneza used all three attempts and lifted 105 kg. The Olympic Champion Maneza landed on the seventh place of the championship. At the London Olympics in 2012, Maneza competed in -63 kg weight category. The IWF World Championships in Almaty was the first time she competed in the -69kg weight category.

In -63 kg weight category, a Kazakhstani weightlifter Karina Goricheva won a silver medal in snatch with the best results in her career – 103, 108 and 113 kg. Romela Begaj from Albania snatched the same weight but won the gold thanks to her smaller weight. The Albanian weightlifter was 62.23 kg against Goricheva’s 62.62 kg.

Olympian Zulfiya Chinshanlo hauled a gold medal in the women’s - 53 kg weight category. In the clean and jerk, Kazakhstan's Chinshanlo came out first and set a new world record twice by lifting 133 kilos and a minute later another 134 kilos. Thus, Chinshanlo's total result was 232 kilograms, while Taiwanese Hsu Shu-ching lifted a total of 218 kilos and Chinese Li Yajun – 214 kilos.

The World Weightlifting Championship took place in Almaty from November 8 to 16.

Kazakhstan's national team finished third at the World Weightlifting Championship. Kazakh athletes won five medals: three gold and two silver. Olympic champion of the 2012 London Games Zulfiya Chinshanlo hauled a gold medal in 53 kilo weight league. Young Kazakh weightlifter Zhazira Zhapparkul won a silver medal in 69 kilo weight league. As for men, Kazakh weightlifter and two-time Olympic Champion Ilya Ilyin won a gold medal (in 105 kilo league), thus becoming a four-time World Champion. In 94 kilo weight category, Zhassulan Kydyrbayev clinched gold and Vladimir Sedov - silver.
