A new Sports Palace will be constructed in Pavlodar in the nearest future and named after prominent Kazakhstan speed skater Lyudmila Prokasheva, 1998 Nagano Olympic Games bronze prize-winner, Tengrinews.kz reports. Yerlan Aryn, the oblast’s Akim (Governor of the region) made this statement after the Presidential Mile race that was timed to the XXX Summer Olympic Games closing ceremony. He made the statement right after the race that he took part in. He said that he highly appreciated Kazakhstan athletes' victories, including the results of Pavlodar athletes, who represented the city at different sport events. “I promise that a new Winter Sports training ground will appear in our city soon and it will be named after Pavlodar-born Lyudmila Prokasheva. She was one of the first athletes who made Kazakhstan famous in sport and hoisted Kazakhstan flag high for everyone to see. Let’s remember Lyudmila Prokasheva’s merits. It will be a new large indoor Sports Palace,” Aryn said. The Akim added that the city authorities had already allotted a piece of ground in the area of the North Industrial Zone of Pavlodar city for new Sports Centers. “We will build Sport City Pavlodar here. The place is quite convenient and public transport is available in this area,” Pavlodar oblast’s head said. A record number of people took part in the Pavlodar race that was held on Sunday, August 12. More than 3000 sport veterans, public service officials and young Pavlodar residents participated in the race. The final bouts of Kazakhstan boxers Serik Sapiyev and Adilbek Niyazimbetov were broadcasted live straight after the city’s race.
