Russian portal Tofight.ru have put together a rating of boxers who could defeat the unbeaten WBA (Super), IBO and WBC (Interim) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin from Kazakhstan. The list includes a French boxer Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam, an American middleweight Peter Quillin, Austin Trout, an Irish boxer Andy Lee and the WBC champion Miguel Cotto.
1. Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam.
A fight against Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam could be the most challenging for Golovkin. The French boxer defeated Curtis Stevens, Golovkin’s former opponent with a unanimous decision. In case Hassan N'Dam N'Jikam faces Triple G, he would have a chance to win some rounds.
2. Peter Quillin
Although the Kazakhstani boxer has planned to fight Peter Quillin for some time already, the boxers have not met in the ring yet. The American boxer has a powerful punch, but his defense is not as strong. However, in a fight that would probably last less than 12 rounds, both fighters could be knocked down.
3. Austin Trouts
Austin Trouts slick southpaw boxing style would not be an easy one to deal with for Golovkin. As for Trout, if he manages to avoid Golovkin’s deadly blows, the American boxer can win by points. But at the same time Golovkin having a high KO ratio can end the fight much earlier.
4. Andy Lee
Andy Lee has an anthropometric advantage over Triple G with his 188 cm height. Moreover, Lee has a good jab and a quick punch that could hinder Golovkin from getting a quick win as he previously did. The Irish boxer has good footwork and can keep his opponent at a distance. But even if the Golovkin-Lee fight happens, it will not be in the nearest future. At the moment, Lee has a title defence fight against Billy Joe Saunders.
5. Miguel Cotto
Miguel Cotto, the holder of the WBC belt is a well-known middleweight fighter. In 2014, Cotto had only one fight against Sergio Martinez. In theory, Cotto being smaller than Golovkin as well as his age could affect the fight.
Meanwhile, Golovkin of Kazakhstan starts the year with a fight against Martin Murray, Martinez’s former opponent from the UK. The Golovkin-Murray fight is scheduled on February 21 in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
