Tengrinews.kz - The triathlon competition at the Paris Olympics has been postponed after analysing the water quality of the Seine River.

Before the Olympic Games, Paris authorities promised to improve water quality. Mayor Anne Hidalgo even swam in the river to show its cleanliness.

The first events on the Seine were scheduled for this morning, but just hours before the start, the men's triathlon was postponed.

"World Triathlon reiterates that our priority is the health of the athletes. Today, tests have shown that the water in the Seine is not clean enough for the event," the World Triathlon press office said in a statement.

It was decided to postpone the competition from 11:00 on 30 July to 13:00 on 31 July. At the same time, the women's triathlon should start at 11:00 on 31 July.

Triathlon events include running, cycling, and open-water swimming.
