Vuelta ranking: Fabio Aru of Astana ProTeam wins 18th stage and ranks 5th overal

Italian cycler Fabio Aru from Kazakhstan's Astana ProTeam has won the 18th stage of the Vuelta a Espana and ranked 5th in the overall, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Italian cycler Fabio Aru from Kazakhstan's Astana ProTeam has won the 18th stage of the Vuelta a Espana and ranked 5th in the overall, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Vuelta finished with the 9.7 km stage in Santiago de Compostela on September 14. Italian cycler from Movistar Adriano Malori won the final stage. Astana’s cycler Alexander Lutsenko finished 8th securing the best result among the Astana cyclers in the race.

Aleberto Contador from Tinkoff-Saxo won the Vuelta race leaving Team Sky’s cycler Chris Froome more than a minute behind. Alejandro Valverde from Movistar and Joaquim Rodriguez from Katyusha finish Vuelta third and fourth respectively.

In the overall teams classification, Russian team Katyusha secured the first placed. Movistar came second and another Russian team Tinkoff-Sexo was third. Kazakhstani Astana took the sixth place.

As a result of Vuelta, Aru went up 20 positions in the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) rating. The Italian cycler is now ranked 19th with 238 points. Vincenzo Nibali capped for the Kazakh team who did not participate in Vuelta this year retained his 4th place in the UCI rating with 392 points. Spanish cycler Alberto Kontador is ranked 1st with 620 points. Another Spanish cyclist Alejandro Valverde is the 2nd with 606 points and an Aussie cycler Simon Gerrans (Orica GreenEDGE) is the 3rd with 478 points.

Astana Pro Team has moved up the rating to the 7th place (813 points). Movistar retained its leadership in the rating with 1250 points. Katyusha has 1066 points and occupies the second place, followed by AG2R La Mondiale with 919 points on the third place.
