Kseniya Pervak was defending the colors of Kazakhstan flag for the first time in a WTA (Women Tennis Association) tournament in Australian Brisbane, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sportinfo.kz. Besides Pervak, Kazakhstan tennis professionals Galina Voskoboyeva and Sesil Karatancheva are also competing in Australia. Sesil is playing qualification round matches. Pervak and Voskoboyeva are playing the main stage matches. The tournament in Brisbane is held on January 2-8. Samantha Stosur, Andrea Petkovic, Francheska Schiavone, Kim Clijsters, and Serena Williams are playing in Australia as well. Maria Sharapova was expected to come to the tournament, but she had to skip the Brisbane tournament because of her trauma. As soon as Kseniya Pervak decided to play for Kazakhstan, the letters KAZ appeared next to her surname in WTA rating, where she holds the 39th line. However, Kazakhstan Tennis federation officials said that the tennis player hadn’t finalized the procedure of changing citizenship yet. Galina Voskoboyeva has already reached the second round of the tournament. In the first round she played against Vera Dushevina from Russia winning in two sets 6:0, 6:0. Her next competitor is Roland Garros-2010 winner Francesca Schiavone from Italy. Francesca Schiavone has already played against another Kazakhstan athlete at this tournament: Kreniya Pervak, but their match was not completed because of Pervak's illness. When the score was 4:4 in the first set Pervak withdrew. If Voskoboyeva wins the tournament she would get $110 thousand and 470 points for her WTA rating. If she reaches the finals she would get about $58 thousand and 320 points. Sesil Karatancheva also started with a victory in the first qualification round winning against Kai-Chen Chang from Thaiwan 6:4, 6:2 in two sets. Her next match will be against Anna Tatishvili from Georgia.
