Alexandre Vinokourov, leader of Astana Kazakhstan cycling team, won’t take part in London Olympic Games this summer, Tengrinews.kz reports, referring to Cyclingnews.com. “Kazakhstan has only two Olympic spots. I don’t want to step into another cyclist’s shoes. There will be 8 or 10 riders who will be striving for the Olympic victory. We have to realize our physical potential and it seems to me this race is not for me now,” the cyclist said. Vinokourov confirmed once more that he would finish his career in 2012. “If everything is fine I will take part in Giro’d’Italia and Tour de France races. It will be an ideal full stop”. Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Vinokourov planned to participate in the London Olympics and make it his last big race. Vinokourov is riding in Tour of Langkawi as part of Astana team these days. The cyclist is 63rd in the general classification after 6 stages of the race. He is 21 minutes and 37 seconds behind Jose Serpa, the leader of the race. The best result among Astana cyclists belongs to Aleksandr Dyachenko. He is fourth and is 2 minutes and 20 seconds behind the leader. The race will be finished on March 4.
