Alexandre Vinokourov, the leader of Astana cycling team, is planning to retire after the London Olympic Games, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Sportinfo.kz. “I will ride in Tour de France race and if I am in good shape, I will be able to take part in the Olympic Games. I am interested in an individual race with an individual start, it will be much more difficult in group race,” Vinokourov said. Kazakhstan cyclist added that sports achievements had ceased being the top priority for him long time ago. “The most important thing for me is my family. When my twins were born in 2002, I missed Tour de France race because of the injury I got in Sweden Tour. Then my wife said that the twins were for the whole life and the Tour is being held every year. And I came third in 2003,” the cyclist said. Vinokourov commented the information that appeared in Swiss media that he had bought his victory over Russian Alexander Kolobnev in 2010 Liege-Bastogne-Liege race. “My lawyers are working on this case. I know who are behind this story, but I won’t give the names. There is always jealousy in peloton. Such things are spreading fast via the Internet. I am repeating once more: I haven’t done this!” Vinokourov said.
