Both triathletes competed in the veterans category and were unable to complete the distance. They represented Great Britain and Mexico, World Triathlon said.
According to Marca newspaper, a British athlete died in the running section, and a Mexican died in the swimming section.
"In the case of the British participant, the 112 emergency service received a call warning of a person who had collapsed on the Paseo Maritimo in Torremolinos during the race, at around 4:15 PM. The 57-year-old deceased suffered cardiac arrest. No further information about his identity has been provided at this time," Marca reports.
The tournament in all age categories is held in Spain from October 17 to 20.
Triathlon is a sport in which each participant must complete three stages in a row: cycling, swimming and running. Triathlon has been part of the Olympic Games program since 2000.
At the Paris Olympics, Belgian triathlete Claire Michel was unable to continue her participation due to hospitalization.
