Tengrinews.kz – Former middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin has confirmed he is not done with boxing and is considering at least one more fight — ideally on home soil in Kazakhstan, citing Vesti.kz.
The 43-year-old boxer spoke about his plans during a meeting with Pichai Chunhavajiraj, head of Asia Boxing and the Thailand Boxing Association. Their brief exchange, published by media outlets, quickly drew attention:
Chunhavajiraj: You’re 43 now?
Golovkin: Yes, 43. I’m still boxing.
Chunhavajiraj: Oh, that’s good.
Golovkin: Maybe I want to have one more fight — in Kazakhstan.
Golovkin last stepped into the ring on September 17, 2022, in Las Vegas, where he lost by decision to Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Álvarez.
Since then, he has focused on administrative roles in sports. Golovkin was elected president of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan in February 2024, and in September he became head of the Olympic Commission at World Boxing.
On November 23, World Boxing will hold its presidential election, where Golovkin is among the official candidates.
