Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has received heads of international gymnastics organizations, citing the Akorda presidential residence.

The President of Kazakhstan met with Morinari Watanabe, President of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG), and Abdulrahman Al-Shathri, President of the Asian Gymnastics Union (AGU).

During the conversation, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation aimed at developing and promoting gymnastics disciplines in Kazakhstan.

"Kassym-Jomart Tokayev highly praised the comprehensive support provided by FIG and AGU to the Kazakhstan Gymnastics Federation. As the President noted, gymnastics is gaining great popularity among children and youth in our country today. Alongside numerous local gyms, three specialized complexes are in operation, where the national team trains and international competitions are held," the Akorda press service reports.

Additionally, following the Head of State's instructions, construction has begun in Almaty on a unique gymnastics center, which will be the largest in Central Asia. The President noted that Kazakhstan has significant experience in organizing large-scale sporting events.

He confirmed Kazakhstan's readiness to consider joint initiatives for sports development and the organization of major international competitions.

In turn, Morinari Watanabe and Abdulrahman Al-Shathri spoke positively of the attention Kazakhstan's leadership pays to supporting both professional and mass sports.

The guests particularly highlighted the successes of Kazakh athletes who represent the country with distinction on the world stage.

"In recognition of their merits and contributions to the development of gymnastics in Kazakhstan and worldwide, the Head of State awarded the President of the International Gymnastics Federation, Morinari Watanabe, the Order of Dostyk, 1st Class, and the President of the Asian Gymnastics Union, Abdulrahman Al-Shathri, the Order of Dostyk, 2nd Class," Akorda notes.
