WBA (Super), IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will have at least three fights before the end of the year, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Golovkin’s manager Oleg German talked with Fightnews.ru about the plans for this year.
“In 2015 we aim at organizing a PPV fight against Miguel Cotto, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez and Chavez Jr. If the Cotto-Canelo fight takes place in May 2015, then in Fall the winner will fight against Gennady. As for the short-term plans, we have May 16 with HBO. We want to organize a fight with the winner of the bout between Matvey Korobov and Andy Lee for the WBO title,” German said.
“We plan to have 4 fights in 2015. If there is time, Golovkin might have an additional fight in the end of the year. All fights will take place in the USA,” the manager said.
Golovkin’s next fight is scheduled to May 16 against Willie Monroe Jr. in California. After the fight, Triple G wants to face Miguel Cotto, the holder of the full WBC middleweight title. Yet, Cotto and his team are reluctant to organize a fight against Golovkin, a start boxer from Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Golovkin attended Muhammad Ali's Celebrity Fight Night 2015 in Phoenix to raise money for charity. The Celebrity Fight Night has raised over 100 million over 20 years for the Muhammad Ali Parkinson Center.
