Kazakhstan tennis professional Zarina Diyas has become Kazakhstan's No. 1 in tennis surpassing her compatriot Yaroslava Shvedova in the Women's Tennis Association (WTA) ranking, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
Reaching the 2nd round of the WTA's Citi Open Tournament in Washington, made it possible for Zarina Diyas to maintain her 53th place with 1019 points.
In the meanwhile, Yaroslava Shvedova, Kazakhstan's former No.1 in tennis, lost two lines and now ranks 54th with 1017 points in the WTA ranking after Diyas.
Zarina Diyas, 20 is a Kazakhstani professional tennis player. She turned pro in 2009 and has won four ITF singles since then.
This year Diyas also made it to the finals in the ITF (International Tennis Federation) tournament held in Nottingham and for the first time in her career reached 1/8 finals at Wimbledon, which fostered a new boost in her ratings.
American Serena Williams is still the WTA leader of the ranking followed by Chinese Na Li and Romanian Simona Halep.
