The Kazakhstan national tennis team won over the Austrian team at the Davis Cup held in Astana, Kazakhstan. According to Jurgen Melzer, leader of the Austrian team, his opponent (Andrey Golubev) was stronger, Vesti.kz reports. “He simply played better,” Melzer said. “I was working hard towards success whatever the score was. But when the third match point in a row occurred I realized that I wouldn’t win that day.” When Melzer was asked why he yielded the victory to Andrey Golubev for the second time in a row, the Austrian tennis professional answered: “I am ready to play against Andrey even tomorrow in spite of my defeat.” “First of all my team failed to show its maximum capabilities,” Clemens Trimmel, captain of the Austrian Davis Cup team said. “Kazakhstan team was indeed stronger and they deserved that victory.” Earlier Tengrinews.kz reported that Kazakhstan’s Andrey Golubev won over Jurgen Melzer in a decisive match and brought the third winning point to Kazakhstan’s team in the Davis Cup tournament. Kazakhstan will play against the Czech team in the next match.
