Tengrinews.kz – The press service of Almaty’s Kairat FC announced that all tickets for the Champions League match against Real Madrid sold out within seven hours of going on sale. The ticket frenzy has become such a hot topic that it is even being discussed in Spanish media, Tengrinews.kz reports.

Tickets for the Kairat-Real Madrid match went on sale a week before the game, on September 23. At one point, the online queue reached 200,000 people, while the stadium’s capacity is only 23,000.

Kazakhstani fans criticized the ticket sales system on social media, claiming that despite all precautions, many tickets ended up in the hands of resellers.

What Spanish media say about the tickets in Almaty

The excitement surrounding the arrival of Europe’s most decorated club to a new country is nothing new for Spanish journalists. However, the situation with tickets in Kazakhstan has even impressed them.

"The demand in Kazakhstan is so high that during the first 90 minutes of ticket sales, the Almaty club’s website was blocked multiple times. More than 155,000 fans applied for tickets for the second round of the Champions League match between Kazakhstan’s Kairat and Real Madrid," Mundo Deportivo described the situation.

Another Spanish outlet openly called the situation "chaos" and expressed surprise at the ticket prices.

"Chaos before the Real Madrid match in Almaty. Ticket sales began today. Servers crashed. And prices for Kazakhstan are just sky-high," the headline read.

"Servers couldn’t handle the number of requests, and ticket sales websites froze. Kairat fans are constantly complaining on social media. These requests tripled the available seating capacity of the local 'Central' stadium," the article continued.

Ticket prices causing concern

The prices for tickets also raised eyebrows. The cost ranged from 30,000 tenge (about 46.75 euros) for cheaper seats to 250,000 tenge (almost 400 euros) for premium tickets.

"For a European country, these are sky-high prices. According to various sources, the minimum wage in Kazakhstan is around 100,000 tenge (155 euros). These ticket prices match the tournament’s requirements and the international practice of hosting Champions League matches," as.com stated.

To put it in perspective, Vesti.kz reported that the average minimum price for Real Madrid’s away games last season was around 44,000 tenge. However, ticket prices vary significantly depending on the country.

For example, in France, tickets for the Lille-Real Madrid game ranged from 90 to 240 euros (56,700 to 151,200 tenge), while for Liverpool’s home match against Real Madrid, tickets ranged from 50 to 120 pounds (36,400 to 87,400 tenge) for standard seats and from 150 to 250 pounds (109,300 to 182,200 tenge) for premium seats.
