Despite Sam Soliman’s earlier talks about his readiness to face IBO and WBA (super) middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin, the Aussie IBF middleweight has changed his mind, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.

Soliman’s team was negotiating to get a unification of middleweight titles fight. According to the manager of the Australian boxer, they were close to signing the contract. But it seems Soliman no longer wants to face the unbeaten Golovkin. Instead, the 40 y.o. boxer will defend his title against Jermain Taylor on October 4.

““If you had a choice between facing GGG or Jermain Taylor, it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure things out,” Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler said.

A number of boxing commentators noted an interesting, or rather logical tendency when Soliman eagerly expressed his wish to face Golovkin, but changed his mind after GGG crushed his countryman Geale in the third round back in July.

As for Golovkin, it is yet unknown who he will face in his next fight. Earlier, Golovkin’s trainer Abel Sanchez expressed his doubt of Andre Ward’s marketability. In response, Ward’s representative declared that Ward is ready and willing to fight Golovkin.
