Italian boxer Domenico Spada thinks Marco Antonio Rubio, an interim WBC middleweight champion stands no chance against Gennady Golovkin of Kazakhstan, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz. Spada fought against Rubio in April 2014 for the interim WBC title.
“Rubio really disanointed me a lot because he was running away a lot and clinching, he acted like a rabbit. Rubio has absolutely no chance against Golovkin, the fight won’t go more than five rounds. I repeat myself, Rubio really disappointed me, he behaved like a little girl in there, constantly running away, that's the truth,” Spada said.
Little girl or not, but Rubio KOed Spada in the 10th round of the fight in Chihuahua. The Roma native received a deduction of two points in the 6th round for hitting his opponent at the back of his head. However, Spada also noted that there were issues with the referees and judges in Mexico.
Next, Spada will fight against Martyn Murray for the WBC Silver middleweight title on October 25 in Monte Carlo.
Gennady Golovkin will face Marco Antonio Rubio on October 18 in Los Angeles in the unification fight. According to bookmakers, Golovkin is a clear-cut favorite.
