Rock Climbing: Kazakhstan climbers win nine medals in Kyrgyzstan

A rock climbing tournament in memory of prominent alpinist Aleksandr Gubayev, who died tragically on K-2 mountain, is held in Chon-Kurchak gorge annually. This year participants competed in three categories: dry-tooling, skyrunning and combined climbing, Mountain.kz reports. 17 athletes represented Kazakhstan in the tournament as part of the Kazakhstan youth national rock climbing team. Kazakhstan alpinists won 9 medals according to the results of three events. Vyacheslav Orlov won bronze in men’s dry-toolling and Anastassiya Salinikova got bronze in the women’s tournament. Kazakhstan’s Aggey Skopin, Mikhail Golovko and Ivan Genin completely occupied the winners’ podium in the skyrunning category and Salinikova won one more bronze in the women’s skyrunning. Kazakhstan's Orlov got silver in the combined category and Merey Sabetov became third. Salinikova was awarded with the silver in the women’s combined.
