Former WBO middleweight title-holder Peter Quillin questioned Gennady Golovkin’s profitability, Tengrinews reports citing Boxing Scene.

“Gennady Golovkin is a scary boogeyman. His name is there, but the money and business behind him is not equaling up to each other. Gennady Golovkin is looking for that payday too. The name doesn’t really bring much to the table besides a high-risk fight with a low reward. Just saying to a bunch of fans – “I beat Gennady Golovkin” – that is all it really does. I’m not thinking like that. I’m not thinking of beating this guys because of the fans,” Quillin said in an interview with IFL TV.

However, according to Tom Loeffler, the manager of the undefeated “boogeyman ” Golovkin, opponents of the Kazakhstani boxer received hefty pay.

“Gennady has established himself as one of the most popular boxers in the sport. He headlined at Madison Square Garden, the big arena, he headlined and sold out- beyond capacity – a the StubHub Center, so it is a little bit curious that Peter would say something like that, but I think it is becoming a convenient excuse for somebody that does not want to fight Gennady,” Loeffler told Boxing Scene.

Earlier, Miguel Cotto’s trainer Freddie Roach, too, stated that Golovkin would not bring much money to the table.

“I would say Gennady’s opponents are the highest paid in the middleweight division outside of a pay-per-view fight. When you look at what Macklin got paid, when you look at what Geale got paid, when you look at what Rubio got paid, I mean they are getting paid the most – by far – to challenge for a middleweight title,” Loeffler stated.

Ex-middleweight champion Daniel Geale got $600 thousand for his Golovkin fight. Quillin who was complaining of small pay got $340, $400 and $450 thousand for his three last fights.

Moreover, according to Loeffler, Quillin is not as interesting for Golovkin who wants to unify all middleweight titles. In September, the undefeated Quillin vacated his WBO middleweight title.
