During the meeting, Tokayev congratulated the athletes and their coaches on their achievements at the Paris Olympics, highlighting the hard work and determination that led to each victory. He particularly praised Olympic champion Yeldos Smetov, who secured Kazakhstan's first-ever gold medal in judo.

"Yeldos, before heading to the Olympics, you promised me and all sports fans that you would do your best to win. You kept your word. You are a true hero! We are all proud of you. Becoming an Olympic medalist three times in a row is a feat only a true champion can achieve. Your victorious journey has inspired our athletes and brought joy to us all," Tokayev said.

The President also commended the silver medal win of Nariman Kurbanov in gymnastics, the first time a Kazakh gymnast has reached the Olympic podium. He acknowledged the impressive performances of Demeu Zhadrayev, Nurbek Oralbay, and the shooting duo Aleksandra Le and Islam Satpayev, who won bronze in the air rifle event—the country's first shooting medal in 28 years.

Tokayev emphasized the importance of supporting Olympic sports and noted that some athletes came very close to the podium, finishing in the top ten. He acknowledged the need for systemic reforms in professional sports to address existing challenges and enhance Kazakhstan's performance in future international competitions.

The President also stressed the significance of promoting mass and youth sports, noting that the development of grassroots sports is crucial for improving professional sports and public health. He urged local authorities to ensure that all sports facilities are fully functional and accessible, with a focus on popular sports such as football, boxing, wrestling, basketball, volleyball, archery, table tennis, and chess.

In closing, Tokayev called on the government to evaluate the effectiveness of sports infrastructure and take appropriate measures to enhance its impact.

Later, President Kasym-Jomart Tokayev's meeting with Kazakhstan's Olympic medalists was postponed.

Members of Kazakhstan's Olympic team have returned from Paris with COVID-19.
