Kazakh professional boxer Zhanat Zhakiyanov from North Kazakhstan defended his title of Asia Council Continental bantamweight champion on January 27, Tengrinews.kz reports. This was the first professional boxing night to take place in Petropavlovsk city of northern Kazakhstan. Zhanat Zhakiyanov's title was contested by Lookdiew Torbuamas from Thailand. The list of boxers defeated by Zhanat Zhakiyanov includes such well-known names as Russian Alexander Fedorov, Georgian Khvicha Papiashvili and Uzbek Bakhyt Abdurakhimov. In May 2011 Zhanat knocked-out Swiss boxer Benjamin Pitteloud and won the title of European Boxing Union (EBU) bantamweight champion. Zhakiyanov has been in professional boxing since 2007. This fight was his 18-th professional fight. Now he is also a coach at a boxing school for children and young people in Petropavlovsk. He also trains regularly himself. Before this fight he started a series of more intensive trainings. It was the first professional fight in Kazakhstan in his boxing career. “We have prepared well for this fight. Both before and after the New Year’s holidays we held general training sessions and numerous sparrings. I am ready for the fight and see myself the winner only,” Zhakiyanov said before the fight. This time his contender was 32-year-old Lookdiew Torbuamas from Thailand, WBC International ex-champion of 2009-2010. He had 14 professional fights: won 11 of them (11 knock-outs) and lost 3. The Petropavlovsk fight was supposed to have 10 rounds 3 minutes each, but Zhakiyanov won by knock-out in the second minute of the first round. He proved his title of Asia Council Continental bantamweight champion in professional boxing according to WBC. On that day there were also boxers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan and Russia who were just at the start of their professional boxing careers.
