Kazakhstan’s boxer Adilbek Niyazimbetov, Olympic Games silver winner, arrived in his home city Aktau late in the evening on August 14. His family, relatives, friends, government officials and numerous fans were waiting for him at the airport, Tengrinews.kz reports citing a regional news website Lada.kz. The athlete and his coach were welcomed in accordance with Kazakh national traditions with baursaks (a type of fried dough in Kazakh cuisine), shashu (Kazakh tradition when women throw sweets and coins over winners), kumys (fermented diary product traditionally made from mare’s milk) and flowers. An improvised concert was held at the airport. The boxer and his coach gave a small press-conference for journalists after the red-carpet welcome. Niyazimbetov was asked if he was satisfied with the silver medal and whether it was frustrating to miss the gold medal. Niyazimbetov said that his participation at the Olympics was a great success for him and that he should be content with getting the silver medal. However, the boxer promised to strife for the best. The boxer added that if his coaches considered it appropriate he would be ready to participate in the next Olympic Games that will be held in Brazil. “It is very nice to be welcomed so warmly in Aktau. I’d like to express my gratitude for your support. I am planning to have some rest in the nearest future and then will start training to achieve better results." The Olympic prize-winner and his coach got into a snow-white Hummer to an ovation of the audience after the press-conference and drove off.
