Kazakhstan Sports authorities don’t expect Kazakhstan Paralympics team to win any medals, Tengrinews.kz reports. Yelsiyar Kanagatov, Deputy Chairman of Kazakh Agency for Sports and Physical Education, presented Paralympics team’s athletes with $300 each “for souvenirs”, as the official said, before their departure to London on August 20. He reminded that the athletes would get money prizes if they win. Kazakhstan Paralympics athletes will get $50,000 for the first place, $35,000 for the second one and $25,000 for the third one. However, the deputy chairman is quite sure that Kazakhstan athletes won’t win any medals. “They have trained a lot prior to the Games, but let’s be realistic. We started to participate in the Paralympic movement quite late. We haven’t arranged everything properly yet. If Kazakhstan Paralympics athletes are among the Top Ten in their sports, it would be a big luck for Kazakhstan. We have instructed them to win the medals, but in reality, the tenth place would be quite good for us,” Kanagatov said. Paralympic Games will be held in London on August 29 - September 9. More than four thousand athletes will take part in the Games. 502 medals will be up for taking in 20 sports. Seven athletes will represent Kazakhstan in three events, including power lifting, swimming and track-and-field athletics.
