Negotiations on Golovkin-Chavez fight that took place in the beginning of the year could resume for a fight in 2015. WBA/IBO/WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler said they were open for a fight with Julio Cesar Chavez Jr, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
In May, Chavez did not want to fight Golovkin of Kazakhstan because he was not happy with the conditions of the contract offered by Top Rank. Later, Bob Arum of Top Rank said that the negotiations were over and both boxers were looking for other opportunities.
“Bob (Arum) did call about a month ago and said that there is still a chance to do that fight. (…) Our door is always open for that fight. The reaction we got just from the rumors of that fight when it was supposed to happen July 19th here at The Forum. If that fight would happen that would be his (Golovkin’s) first fight on Pay-Per-View and that is why we were so willing to do that fight in July,” Loeffler said.
Earlier Kazakh boxer Golovkin said that he wanted to have a PPV fight for the fans. “I talked to my promoter Tom Loeffler. I need a PPV fight. I feel like it is the right time to give fans a big show. I need and want to have the PPV fight,” the boxer said.
Golovkin’s next fight is scheduled to February 2015 in Monaco.
