Serik Sapiyev, Kazakhstan 69kg welterweight division boxer, has advanced into the semifinals of the London Olympic boxing tournament, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Vesti.kz. Sapiyev won convincingly over Venezuela’s Gabriel Maestre Perez with the score of 20:9 in the quarterfinals match. Kazakhstan athlete gripped the lead in the first round and scored 6:2. Perez was more active in the second round, however, Sapiyev didn’t allow him to win and the round ended in a draw of 5:5. Kazakhstan boxer firmly took the lead in the third round and didn’t leave any chances to the Venezuela’s boxer 9:2. Serik Sapiyev told about his victory after the match, Vesti.kz reports, citing Astana Tourism, Physical Education and Sport Department’s press-service. “Everything went as was planned,” Sapiyev said after the match. “I was preparing for the fight as usual. My rival was quite strong, he didn’t give up till the end. However, I think that it is too early for congratulations. I am trying to concentrate for the next bout now. As you know, I know my future rival well enough. I will get ready for this match.” Sapiyev will fight against Russia’s Andrey Zamkov in the semifinals of the tournament that will be held on August 11 at 02:45 a.m. Astana time. Andrey Zamkov earlier won over America’s Errol Spence 16:11 in the quarterfinals.
