WBA, IBO and WBC Interim middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin will face WBC Silver titleholder Martin Murray from the UK on February 21, 2015, Tengrinews reports citing Vesti.kz.
K2 Promotions and Golden Gloves agreed to have the Golovkin-Murray fight in Monte Carlo, Monaco.
Murray’s last fight took place in Monte Carlo, where he won an Italian boxer Domenico Spada in the 7th round.
“I’ve got the tools to beat any middleweight out there. I wouldn’t be taking the fight if I didn’t think I could win. A lot of his opponents have gone into the fight already beaten. You won’t get that with me. I’m gonna go in there and stand up to him,” Murray told Liverpoolecho.co.uk.
Golovkin’s promoter Tom Loeffler stated that Murray would be the toughest opponent for GGG. “It fits in perfectly as Murray has shown he is world class and Gennady wants to continue to prove himself the most exciting fighter out there. Gennady is making big inroads in the US, but it’s also important for the fight to be in primetime in Europe where he has so many fans,” Loeffler told Boxingscene.com.
Golovkin’s last fight took place on October 19 when the Kazakhstani KOed Marco Antonio Rubio in the second round of the middleweight title unifying fight.
